I have the Ryzen 7 version, and think it is a great laptop. I can't imagine the 5 is that big of a step down and, at that price, will work quite well.

Mine works fine with a thunderbolt dock, it just operates at USB 3 speeds Display is passed through the USB port on surface laptop 3. So I use everything on the dock including a 4k display
