I've used the laser, but I like the shadow line better. It also helps to slightly illuminate work area. But, that's just my preference.

I bought it at Lowe's for the same price a few weeks ago. I've never seen a tool with such high reviews on Amazon. There are bare any negative reviews on it.

The shadow is always accurate. The other cool thing about shadow lines is the width is the width of the blade always. So you know exactly how much material you're going to remove.
