Replying to myself. I found that the EGO uses a spline style attachment, and the Ryobi uses a square one, per this review of the EGO multi-attachment system.

I also have a Ryobi Expand-It capable trimmer and was wondering the same. From what I've found online, it appears that the driveshaft on the Ryobi is square, so won't work with this Ego attachment....
