They prob just lost their ability to charge... Voltage too low. Manually charge them at low voltage till the battery charger will recognize them again. They are prob fine.

That's accurate. They did mention spending quite a bit having it made so they could test apples to apples.
But they've also tested socket mass having relatively minimal effect on the torque...

I could be mistaken, but I believe that they had custom sockets made so that the lighter mass and thinner walls of typical 3/8" sockets didn't impact their testing.

It's better to step down with a 3/8 adapter rather than step up to a 1/2. The only time it isn't is if length of the tool is an issue.

3/8" drive could do it, but 1/2" drive is better for larger nuts and bolts because the sockets are beefier and more efficiently transmit the impact wrench's torque. I would typically use a 1/2"...
