I did buy one at $149. Now I'm debating if I should cancel it for this DS720+ for future proofing. I just need it for file sharing. I don't think I will use it for running Plex.

Just an FYI... this model is 2 years old at this point. Synology tends to release new models every two years.. and rumor is that they will be releasing another line of new NAS closer to the holidays.

If you only need to use it as a media server, and don't care about electricity cost (and space) then there's not much difference.
