They used the wrong denominator. 36 sqft is 36% of 100 sqft.

Because the straight leg requires 56% more fabric for the top, more material for the top of the frame, etc.. It shouldn't be rocket science to figure out a canopy that offers 100 square feet of shade...

keep in mind what a slant leg the top cover is only 8 x 8. the 10 x 10 is the distance around the bottom of the slant legs.
