It could probably work but will be a little more difficult and a little harder to throw the snare out as far. On a jetty or dock should be fine but I'd say it's too small for beach.

You could use it for bass, it would be stiff and heavy but not impossible to fish with.

No reason to do that, mono in the beginning and then braid for last 100-150 yards depending how much you need

Yes, they wouldn't be very good at bass/trout fishing, but if you're going for catfish, it's a solid buy. Even the 8000 wouldn't be overkill if you have giant catfish.
