I'd like to get one for my kids. Might choose one between Orion StarBlast II 4.5 and Celestron AstroMaster 90AZ. Or another one below $200. Any suggestion? ...

This is unfortunately *not* the model with a phone adapter with app to locate celestial objects. It includes only an adapter to hang your phone onto the eyepiece for pictures. Just FYI

Thanks for the info! I'm trying to get it for Christmas, so that one probably won't work out.

But the complaint was that Celestron is trash. It's not.

A 102mm scope. If a member of Costco, many stores currently have a Celestron Omni 102AZ on sale for $160. I own this scope ... it's not bad. The mount is a tad shakey, focuser is so-so,...

What's better for under $200 than Celestron 90mm ones in that price range? Thanks.

I took a shot. My daughter has been watching videos about the Milky Way. Figure $70 for a last second Xmas gift is worth a try. If she gets into I can get her a nice one for her bday in the spring.

I concur with everything Namelessme says in their two posts above. EQ mounts on tripod stands, at this level, will probably be more problematic and/or confusing for a novice. Dob AZ mounts...

Unless you know you'd like an equatorial mount (meaning have experience with one), I'd suggest the tabletop instead. Even many of us who have used and owned several scopes may not be fond of EQ...

I'm sure they will reply, but I'll throw in my two cents in the meanwhile.... You would use a small table (secure), stool, buckets... something that is very stable, as a base. And a picnic table...

Would you recommend your linked one above or the similar item with a tripod here: Orion StarBlast II 4.5 Equatorial Reflector Telescope https://a.co/d/3hfXxH4

Thanks for the info. I'm looking to get a decent starter scope for my dad. Would he put this on a table or something? Or is there a specific tripod made for dobsonian scopes?
