Pre outs as in PreAmp outs. Basically you bypass the amplifier part of the Receiver and use separate Amps for certain channels - This is useful if you have high end and difficult to drive speakers....

A bit more distortion than I'd want. Early versions had poor sound quality. It's a competent device, at least, for the money.
