Yes, after this date you cannot purchase digital games on the Wii U eshop anymore.
You can still download your purchases and patches after but no more new purchases.

Regular Wii remotes will work. Very few Wii games (like Zelda Skyward Sword) require a remote with Motion Plus.

The Wii U was a decent console but the decision by Nintendo to stick with the tablet gimmick was a day late & dollar short that sunk the console making it DOA.
