Synergy is not a very good solution if you only have one monitor. Trust me, I tried to make it work but it's much to complicated for some people in the house.

Keyboard and mouse don't need 3.0, or even 2.0, and 3.0 sometimes interferes with some wireless keyboard and mouse dongles, so 2.0 for mouse and keyboard is a benefit.
