The 3rd one was a massive disappointment. I’ve heard that it is salvageable with patches but I have yet to go back and try the game out again. It’s almost like they were so focused on changing things...

There is a "newer" Master of Orion that came out in 2016. I've played it quite a bit and it's pretty fun. A healthy mix of MOO1 and MOO2 concepts I'd say. Really cool voice acting in it too.

I played the first for hours on end as a kid, still plays well to this days none of the sequels were any good in my opinion
