Always check the minimum distance these can measure, I have one very similar to this, different brand name, can't measure smaller distances, I think anything less than 16" or so it gets confused....

That is also a good plan. I mostly like this for my existing items that have microusb. I try as hard as I can to get only USBC, but some things (kids toys in particular) we need it for.
