Very useful. Logged in just to appreciate the poster. Kudos to OP also. Cannot give rep as the thread is too old

ZFS (Truenas Scale) 10 bays would do raidz3 where up to 3 can fail and be rebuilt from the others.

This would be faster than just 1gig. 10gig would be really really expensive to upgrade to.

Why wouldn’t you spend a little more and get a beefy Synology? Is it because the need is for an external USB to attach to an existing computer?

Windows storage spaces works fine. I get very acceptable performance with all 10 bays populated on single drive parity raid. I can read / write at nearly 1000MB/s to my array.

Thank you for sharing your expertise! I appreciate it. :) I agree 100%, don't find it helpful when folks down-vote without explanation! :( I sent thank-you to you for the info.

yeah, the Mediasonic I bought is 3.0 speeds and is the 2022 year model that holds up to 4 18TB hard drives, with a new chipset.

I can't say I've ever used Storage Spaces, but both the Mediasonic Probox and the Sabrent will show drives individually. I also like the discussion of multiple products. I actually have an old...

I have no idea why anyone would downvote this. But its exciting to see options, so thank you - also to the OP for this thread. I'm looking for a way to have 4-8 HDs (using some of the cheap 12TB /...

The reason I asked is I do media production and need access to a fair amount of space, ideally as fast as reasonable possible. I have a laptop (not a desktop) with two PCIe slots and a 5 bay NAS, and...

I debated posting this because I knew I'd see some of these kinds of responses. For someone like me that does 1 to 1 backups and just needs something that allows reliable, massive storage in a...

You're neglecting that there's an 8x difference between bits and bytes while using both. 350MB/s (megabytes) is actually 2800mb (megabits). 3 drives running full tilt would saturate that USB...

I can't belive something like this exists for this kind of money. Its a shame people who buy this are not educated . Will leave it at that!

It would be a huge waste of the potential and the money spent on the SSD drives to put them in something like this. You’d be better off buying a PCIe card that can house 4x M.2 SSD’s or maybe even...

Seems cheaper to buy 2 5-bay ones. Curious what are people using these for? This doesn’t seem like it’s really an enterprise storage solution and a single 10 bay enclosure seems overkill for...

I have the Syba 8 bay, I upgraded unRAID 6.11.1 to 6.11.5 and it corrupted the unRAID usb (something with isci and how the drives boot) I'd caution anyone thinking of using this with unraid

Just based on the pictures it looks like this would be a waste. It appears that each nvme takes up a sata port, so this unit would use up 4 of the 10 ports in the cabinet.
