Is there any point at all if laptop only capable of 3.0? I know it can’t utilize 4.0 but maybe some other reasons a newb wouldn’t necessarily know about. Thanks

If that were true, then a fast Gen 3 drive (faster than this one) would work in a PS5 and this one wouldn't. That is definitely not the case. Gen 4 is a different protocol than Gen 3. That's...

So for someone that just wants storage from a reputable OEM, just go with this over the SN770 or the Samsung 9xx ones?

I wouldn't bother paying more for Gen 4 in your case. A higher end gen 3 would probably serve you better. I recently got the 2TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus (gen 3) refurbished from Best Buy for $99, but...

Great price point, slow though and have to purchase heatsink separate if you plan to use it in a ps5. I am still happy with what I got a few weeks back came with free heatsink after Amex deal $15 off...

The use case here is for applications with no space for a heatsink, or where efficiency is prioritized (laptop, etc). Gen 4 SSDs are designed with newer PCIe 4.0 interface which provides higher...

I've read that this drive runs hot. I guess it is good for storage. Maybe the $79.99 price is for prime only?

It seems like if one does not require a Gen 4 drive, the Intel 670p at $80 (NewEgg, MicroCenter) is a better choice. Toms Hardware doesn't have good review for the NV2.

A lower amperage would have a lot more impact on lower temps. Though slower speeds could allow it to run at lower amps.

PCIe Gen4 just means that it conforms to the 4.0 spec/speeds. The underlying controller and flash memory might be the same as would be used on a Gen3 SSD, but the PCIe transceivers and circuitry...
