For lug nuts, 1/2 is ideal as it would have less play. This is more for engine bay work. I use a dedicated wheel torque wrench. A 3/8 craftsman for engine bay work including oil pans and a tiny 1/4...

How often are you supposed to have the torque wrench tuned or replaced? I have a 1/2" for about 10 years now and use it maybe 4 times a year to set the lug nuts.

I work on our firefighter SCBA airpacks and have to torque correctly from 7 INCH lbs up to 85 ft-lbs. Everything has a proper torque value, even 3/32nd inch bolts.

I actually do, but only because I have a 1/4", but I got it for low-torque but still critical metal on metal situations, like the valve cover and my road bike.

Most torque wrenches are not accurate at the bottom 20% of their scale and I doubt that one would be any different. I hope it's nothing too important on your Mercedes that you're torqueing to 4 N-m...

When it comes time to calibrate, might as well just get a new one. Always store them unloaded (set to lowest torque value) even if the manual says you don't have to. Doing that should keep it...
