I personally really like the Sennheiser HD 6XX a lot. I have both HD555 from 17 years back as well as the 6XX and they both sound good to me, with improved clarity on the 6XX.

While it has similar hardware under the hood, you will be missed parametric EQ and Dirac. I would say it's personal choice, but for that sale price it's no brainer buy.

luk350 has the right answer. I've tried to hear the difference on senn 600, 650, 8xx and I just can't. But my ears are 50+ years old too, so younger ears might hear a difference.
