first off, drum brakes have brake shoes, not pads. secondly, the brakes on the max are for the life of the scooter. you can adjust the nut, but that's about it.

Seems to occur from people using the regenerative braking feature. At medium/heavy regen braking is what fries it. Best to leave it at mild braking.
