in my 30 years of playing tennis...i have never heard this before. I used to string my own rackets as well in hybrid and never heard to only replace one or the other.

Not that bad. I always replace cross only, no issue. Of course, fix the racket on stringing machine first and then cut cross. I replace my multi cross almost every month.

I use RPM Blast. Does anyone know how this compares? I heard it's advertised as softer and yet it feels stiffer. I don't care for the pink color. Is that all they have? thanks
