The tank valve needs to be turned super slow or else opening it fast trips the leak detection. Ever since I began doing this I have no problem w getting a super hot griddle.

Once in a while when changing your tank, air can get trapped when screwing on the connector. Make sure the tank is turned off first then twist the connector until you hear the gas pressure release....
