Oh, you can configure any speaker to be powered or unpowered if that's what you want. I can do that on my tx-nr626 at least

In this aspect the receiver has two subwoofer outputs but they share the one(mono) signal.
It’s more beneficial to have separate signals for each subwoofer.

No, these usually have both powered and unpowered zone 2 but you sacrifice two of the nine speakers if you want to play on zone 2 and your living room 9.X setup at the same time.
