I believe you need a certain OS version for it to work on and i believe S9 and S9+ run at lower OS versions for it to work. But will need to confirm with soemone else on this thread

Why do you need a Samsung Galaxy device, I have a Google Pixel phone and I use the Smart things App and it works well with the Pixel phone.
