Has anyone order the 6' 6" PENN Spinfisher VI Fishing Rod and Reel Spinning Combo and received the correct item? I ordered on back in November, they sent me the 8 foot version. I returned it,...

As someone already mentioned, garden hose...but be sure to rinse entire rod and reel from all directions and the reel especially good and extra thoroughly from all directions. Penn is great name in...

Yeah, you're right for distance tournaments and for beach casting. They have all the space they need and they do allot of lateral rotation of rod and long leaders to get those long rods to load. I...

This is just silly i.e. casting distance between 6.5' and a 10'+ surf rod. That's just physics. Go to a competitive distance casting event or go watch one on youtube and see how many 6.5' rods you...

I agree. The length also helps to lift the rod above sea weed that gathers near the shore. Long surf rods also get hit frequently by the birds especially pelicans flying by. Long rods usually do not...

Sure you can, most people can cast this 6.5' rod further than they can cast a heavy 10' or 11' surf rod. One purpose of the surf rod's excessive length is to keep your line above the waves so your...

More. It holds 1000 feet of 50lb braid. Close to 1200 feet of 12lb mono. You could pack nearly 2500 feet of 12lb braid onto this reel. You shouldn't, but you could. The sensible thing to do would be...

I went through a few Penn rod/reel combos for spinning reels and conventional casting reels. They seemed fine, until I started getting the rod and reel separate. I found Battalion and Carnage rods on...

It would make a good pier setup but the giant reel would look a little out of place if anything.

All depends where you live/fish. On the Texas Gulf coast, the beach doesn't drop off as fast so the depth of water the pompano run, you need a long surf rod to reach them. Same for bigger game fish....

It is just a very heavy duty rod and reel for most freshwater. If you’re talking large gars, sturgeons, catfish then sure, why not. For bass and panfish, it is like using a sledge hammer to crack a...

All beginners should consider this deal if you have a boat or want to fish off a boat. It's probably OK for pier fishing but like everyone says the reel size is overkill for that. It's either too...

I have a 12' Penn I can cast 140 yds if I ever wanted too which I rarely do. I can cast this 6'6 rod 75 yds if I wanted. Most of the time in the Florida surf you want to cast between 5 yds and 50 yds.

Yes, perfect for saltwater. Being new to saltwater, be sure to rinse these thoroughly with fresh water once onshore if you want them to last.
