So, is the one in the OP better for what I do (mainly smaller gauge wire, some hardened materials). Ones like these seem more agile for small spaces, but maybe they're geared for precision work...

Will these cut twisted steel wire rope? Or do you need a specialized type of side cutters for that? I need to trim some garage door guide wires and my lineman cutters won't even nick it!

The knipex and linked Klein can cut steel. Most Klein are only hardened to cut copper.
