I think Nvidia is definitely a better choice. Not cheap, but you avoid a lot of hassle of dealing with a beta version graphic card.

I will have 4k monitor though I do not play game. The high power consumption at idle is a deal breaker for me. If this is still the issue, I would rather spend more for a Nvidia video card.

My current driver is 4972. Window Pcie Express power setting is set to maximize power savings. ASPM enabled in BIOS, Nothing happened. The power idles at 41-43W.
