Burnt wood is pretty easy to avoid by backing out as you drill. Recommended for both bi-metal and carbide.

Got these for $36 last month. They work well with the Gen3 M12 Fuel hammer drill on wood. I don't plan on drilling anything other than wood with these.

Just fyi the Home Depot item listing has an image that says these cut through aluminum and thin metal, in a side-by-side list that also shows what the carbide ones cut
