Yes, but (USB C to HDMI cable) lack of charging will run out of laptop or phone battery very soon. So, the PD passthrough (charging) is the best to have, also 4k@60hz.

I've used mine with just a pass-through power adapter, the ethernet port, an HDMI, and a USB-C connected to it and it runs rather hot. I can see it failing when more connections are used constantly....

Can the USB-C PD port also be used for data? I find it weird how this will use up one of the USB-C ports on your device but doesn't make the effort to give one back to you...

This actually works well, I bought a more expensive one years ago and this one for the last month hasn't given me any problems. The more expensive one I own has weird disconnect issues at times.
