I could be wrong, but I believe it's around 10 years. From what I remember from the instructions is that it will start beeping when it's close to its end date.
I have this and a wood stove. I have smoke roll out of that stove sometimes when loading. That alarm always displays 0. Never makes a peep.

Don't mean to thread-crap. If you have gas appliances, you may want to consider an explosive gas and CO alarm (propane, carbon monoxide, natural, methane, explosive gas). They're more expensive but...
