Same here, but I wasn't crazy about having an extra foot of cable bundled up. Ended up doing as in the attached picture and covering 3 pins with kapton tape. You only need to cover the longer 3.3v...

In linux, smartctl -a /dev/sdd for SMART stats where /dev/sdd is the drive you are testing. You'll need smartmontools installed. badblocks -wsv -b 4096 /dev/sdd this will write and read back...

any recommendations on how to fully test these in a Synology NAS box? I can't put a 3.5" drive anywhere else but would love to check SMART, bad sectors, and other vitals before building a RAID array...

Ordered 5. All spun up fine, but 1 was constantly causing my Synology NAS to crash. Yanked it out (after yanking much my own hair out trying to figure out what had gone wrong) and the rest are...

Packaging was more generic than serverpartsdeals, bubble wrap instead of a drive box but it arrived fine considering I saw the delivery guy literally drop it off thanks to my camera. Came with...

Personally, I'd take the used drive, especially if it's an enterprise class model. I just can't recall hearing any good things about these "whitelabels." If possible, I'd go for a more recent model...

I remember hearing the same about manufacturer rejects which had me wondering what is more risky, a "new" manufacturer reject, or a 5 year old in-service drive? Ideally, I could just get a brand new...

Don't quote me on this but I seem to recall hearing rumblings that these off-brands have a good chance of being essentially manufacturer rejects. They may be lower (lowest?) binned drives that didn't...

Has anyone reviewed/tested these drives extensively? https://www.ebay.com/itm/115477505445 They are white label and allegedly brand new. I can't find a cheaper price, and that has me thinking...

^ And to add to above, 3 out of 4 of the hard drives failed HD Sentinel. Lovely. The one that is passing HD Sentinel has over 4 years of Power On Time.

Got the four 14TB drives and the Terramaster F4-423 4-bay NAS. It has more vibration resonance than the resonance cascade in Half-Life 1. Each of the four HDDs when individually placed in a HDD dock...

Bought 3, 2 seem to be fine but 1 is unusable. Fails every test, even the short 30 second ones. Hoping the return process is smooth at least.

No offense, but comments like this just aren't useful IMO. Unless you have a specific noise reading to share, there are too many variables for that to be helpful unless absolutely everyone who owns...

Lol that MTBF is a probability when you deploy hundreds of these drives. Doesn't mean they expect it to last 100 years or whatever it comes to. It really only need to last about 15 though before...

Certainly a possibility, but I still prefer DrivePool + snapraid to Storage Spaces if you're sticking with Windows, since it's a simple solution that offers a lot of flexibility. The vendor also...

I'll cast my vote for OMV with mergerfs and snapraid. Makes a great combo. Flexible drive pooling with however many parity drives you want, data can be read on any drive individually with zero...
