That's probably my biggest gripe with the BG3. Even on normal difficulty, it seems that many encounters (even the simplest ones) can be totally lucked based vs skill

Worth it a million times over. Astonished by how much people on here seem to hate BG3. I will say BG3 is more strict as it follows D&D rules. If you’re unfamiliar it can be a bit of a learning curve....

It depends on your style of play. If you're on the completionist side, 100 hours easy. Story only probably sub 50, either game. I have over 100 hours of Yakuza Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.

I couldn’t afford BG3 when it came out (student) so I bought DOS 2 on sale instead and it was AMAZING. Makes me want to play the first one. Can’t recommend DOS 2 enough.

Yeah, they are lengthy games but anyone with limited time is going to have a hard time playing any in that genre. They are not exactly known for their brevity.
