16awg is pretty "average" when it comes to extension cords, and by average, I mean light-ish duty.
It's generally fine for low power draw devices, and you won't be getting much loss over 6 feet...

If you are not worried about amperage too much, I'd look more for deals on extensions with flat plugs. They have been in the 2-4$ range in the past and are much more versatile.
