Not dead last, lots of other brands I'd put behind it such as sk hynix, corsair, inland, kingston, adata, team, pny, patriot etc. I do like patriot thumb drives though

M.2 is an interface. It can support SATA or NVMe. There's an M.2 version of the MX500. Assuming you were referring to NVMe drives, I'll just point out that the MX500 uses TLC NAND and has 512MB DRAM....
