And by power cables, this means non-metallic (e.g. Romex) or other approved in-wall high voltage wires. Don't run power cords in the wall, ever.

In old work you cut the hole from outside, push the box in and secure it with tabs without the need to open the wall. I use those to add extra outlets or Ethernet wiring.

The plastic tabs that you shove the Romex through on these suck. They usually break due to brittle plastic. Not really an issue but something to be aware of.

yeah this tab type might work ok on fiberglass-reinforced 5/8 type x drywall but will probably destroy 1/2 drywall in time. i'm a big fan of the screw-in type too
