Dak is a great board/brand. No Walmart type. However braille boards by maple are being sold for 8 bucks. Trade out the trucks and you have a complete set to your standard

Mine also came in with the love park box. The kool-aid one I got is cool, but I like the one with him busting threw the wall or him riding in a 64' impala hitting switches. Lol.

At his size, a 7.5 or 7.75 would be perfect. The latter would feel more stable but a bit harder to control initially, and he would never really outgrow a 7.75 (it is the minimum size for an adult.)...
