I must've remembered it incorrectly, but like you said performance is negligible at the boost clock, which is when you'll be putting the chip through it's paces anyways.

While performance can be close, they don't share the same clocks. 7600 is a cut-down version of 7600X, which has higher base and boost clocks (https://www.amd.com/en/processors/ryzen).

PPPS: The 7600 and 7600x are essentially the same chip based on performance (same boost clock), but the 7600 has a much lower TDP (lower heating requirements and lower electricity usage).
