Thanks for the suggestion. Put it in a drive dock, the drive shows up in disk management, but when trying to initialize it there is a data error message.

Extensions always have some liability but since one of the power lines is not connected there is less risk of arcing I bet. The entire hubub around sata connector issues was 7 years ago, they must...

I appreciate you making that suggestion. I know the drive is bad because they send a cable that you can use to connect the drive to your computer that disables the power pin and it gave me the same...

Yes, but from what I read there is no detriment if you cover the first two pins with the third. It's just easier to use a larger piece of tape that cover the first three than using a really thin...

For folks going down the SATA power splitter route, I recommend searching Google for "shuck sata power splitter cut wire" and reading that first reddit hit. Been using this splitter for over 3 years....

I think it's damaged because I tried with the adapter they provided, I also tried without the adapter and covered the first three pins with tape, and I tried in two different devices, and same issue...

Wow, I'm really surprised that it comes with an adapter to disable the pin just due to liability reasons but on the other hand they're selling to end consumers. IMO, I would try not to use the...

As others have mentioned, you need to use some type of tape, kapton or other non-conductive tape, and cover the third pin. To me that is a major PITA and the easier solution is to use a Molex-to-SATA...
