The chips ARE acting as DRM (which can be replicated). But replacement chips aren't free. So it costs a little extra.

Google Cloud Print was shut down, that's the reason why chromebooks won't print through it. this one should work with your devices as it doesn't use cloud print.

This uses 700 series toner.
700 series toners have chips. Whereas the 600 series toners have no chips.
This just means refilling (or buying remanufactured) cartridges costs a little extra.
