Not sure what 'pita to keep nice' means... you wipe it down. you rarely use a very light touch of cleaner/polish if needed just like I do with my fenders. Perhaps 'keep nice' means free from signs...

Nitro is the worst. I have a 2023 SG 61 and dented the finish just installing a new bridge. For me the real issue with these is the Indian Laurel. I cant stand how that feels.

I have this in dark burst. Great guitar with Gibson Burstbucker humbucking pickups, CTS potentiometers, and Mallory capacitors.
Only negative are the tuners, which work fine, but feel cheap.
