The one difference with the Homai brand at Costco is it's super dusty and requires more washing. I can't tell the difference after that, though.

For home cooking Tamaki Gold is the top notch. I only use Tamaki. For restaurant use any cheap old rice from Asian grocery stores are good.

Try visiting Japan, China, Korea, etc. You'll see that best fried rice is always made with short-grained rice. You just need to know what you are doing to make it right. But, I can understand that...

Specifically for fried rice, short-grained rice is not great. It holds way too much moisture. It's possible, but it needs more time and effort to dry it out properly.

If anyone wants truly good rice, you should try Akita Otome. It's amazing.
But, when you make heavily seasoned dish like fried rice or dissolve it during cooking like konji, I'd opt for cheap rice...

I buy Shirakiku Koshihikari rice from my local Asian grocery stores. It's very expensive compared to other rice, but it's magically good.
