They inflate with your mouth, it doesn't take much effort, if you inflate too much the pad becomes too stiff, they have a button to adjust the inflation level.

I went hammock but still use air pads like this to keep my back from freezing in the hammock. For me it’s an “and” issue not “or”. Makes for a much better hammock experience.
