HF tape is god awful for anything other than throwaway use. The adhesive is weak and it is a horrible mess to clean as it falls off (which will happen pretty quickly even in ideal conditions).

I used to use this until I found some high end Tesa automotive wiring tape. I forget the specs but they make a broad range of tapes and some are pretty great.

It's worth the money. Cheap stuff comes off eventually and leaves adhesive everywhere. This tape stays pliable for years if not over a decade. I threw all my cheap rolls away after finding this stuff.

We use this to seal marine research equipment. It's amazing how well it sticks to itself but doesn't leave a residue after removal.
