Video is pretty good. We do it a little bit different but that should work if the floor is level. We typically only remove one drum on double wide doors. We remove the bearing plate and slide...

You should have a small amount of tension in the open position. This ensures that the cables never become slack. This could cause the cables to jump on the drums. At best this would wear your drums...

Hi Thanks. I liked your reply. I replaced my torsion spring in the closed position. I know that there is no tension in the open position because I needed to get my car out of garage before the new...

What the DIY methods fail to address is that the drums need to be re-tightened in the exact same spot. The doors were most probably (if installed correctly) leveled upon installation. You can easily...

Anyone who has done it knows that when the door is all the way up, there is no tension anywhere.

Looks like your DIY-verse is pretty limited.

Don't be a drama queen. Anyone with a brain can do it after watching some YouTube videos. I did it and saved me a lot of bucks.

WRONG! You can't just take off the old one and slap new on. You have to release the spring

Make sure it's the thickest cables you can find for replacement. Don't go cheap on these cables. The whole garage door depends on them.

This is incorrect advice, and will get someone injured or killed. Torsion springs can still be under significant tension, even when the door is all the way open.

Yes the cables can be easily changed when the door is all the way open and no tension on the cables, never attempt it when the door is closed because the spring tension can kill you or cause...

I have always been big on DIY, I pretty much have always done it all. With that being said, I don’t mess with garage doors. My neighbor was killed trying to fix his. I don’t mess with electrical too...

This is bad advice and untrue. Please do not remove your torsion cables without knowing what you are doing. They are under tension.

Absolutely not. You're talking about changing the spring which can actually kill you and should only be done by a pro. These are the cables for the door which simply remove by hand (you do need a...
