There are some great beaches on the Big Island. But they are not easy to get to and you'll need a 4x4. But you may be the only one on them.

It depends on how long I'm gone for but I've parked in residential areas not far from LAX and never gotten a ticket. Sometimes I rent a car. I've also had friends move my car to avoid street cleaning.

It depends on what time you leave. I drive 90 all the time. If I Google map downtown SD to LAX it's 2 hours. I don't know if Google is using the legal speed limits or has learned my driving habits...
