This, and the Diamond Age, are my two favorite Neal Stephenson novels. Easily worth $2 even if you don't love it. FWIW I've read this book 3-4 times and each time I like it more.

i loved the first half where they set up the place.
the second part, a little less so although when i think back on it,
i do think it was quite interesting.
it's a linear read, not like infinite...

I got about halfway through this book and just couldn't read it anymore. I have no idea where the story was eventually gonna go but it was taking forever to get there.

This book has stuck with me. It’s a long way to convey essentially one idea, but conveying that idea with extreme slowness is true to that one idea.
