Yes we both wrote that at one point. My comment on the banned outlets is specifically for dryers which used to use 10-30 outlets. That required bonding neutral to ground which isn't code compliant...

My point exactly. There are 3-slot code-compliant 250v receptacles that use 2+1 cables. This was the whole argument that there is "no use" for 10/2.

The old 10-30 type of outlet doesn't have a ground, only a neutral, and are thus not code compliant. Neutral can not be safely used as a ground because it's a current carrying wire when the load uses...

Well, yes, but the question was, what uses 30a on 110v? The 10/2 in this listing is a use case for that outlet, which most tow-behind trailers utilize. 50a RV is moot on 220v; none of these cables...

I don't know. This article talks only about dryers and includes some real nonsense like this: "3-Slot: As stated previously before the mid 90’s dryer outlets tended to have 3 slots (one ground and...

Those outlets are not allowed for new construction because they're not up to code. The outlets are sold as repair parts for old houses that are grandfathered to the older code.

An EV, whether BEV or PHEV, can charge at any current up to its maximum internal charger supports, and down as low as 6A. The EVSE and car handshake to what each supports and charges at the...

But a 50A (dryer) outlet (to be used for BEV charging) needs the neutral to be up to code, no? Without the neutral, you can only put in an outlet that will receive the less-powerful 16A level 2...

Depends on the usage. EVSE (EV "chargers") do not use the neutral, so 10/3 is a waste of copper and money. Those can be wired directly to 10/2.

There are several code-compliant 3-pole 3-wire 250V NEMA receptacles. I don't see how 2+1 cables can be banned.

Well each state doesn't have its own code, its a national electrical code. But each state can choose what they do and don't adopt. NEC is just a bare minimum install, locals can decide if they...
