You had bad luck. Most of the techs have some HR24's, although they might have had some and just told you they didnt. Sad they're dumping refurbs on customers...nothing like replacing your old slow...

Not in my experience. I canceled because (at the time) it was $300 through a third party for a HR24 and the technicians sent out to "repair" a HR22 didn't have any HR24s and said that they're trying...

You are correct. I just got a refurbished HR21 which is even slower than the 4 year old HR20 that it replaced. They give new HR24's to new customers, old flaky crap to the ones that have been...

Most of the time if you get it through Directv, you don't know what you will end up with. It's usually older model and a refurb.

I have a HR-22 model, but my other 2 HD DVRs are the old ones without the neat digital front, the whole home DVR is amazing with 3 of them as you can record 6 shows at once with only 3 lines running...

When I added mine last week I asked if they had any deals for adding 2yr contract. they gave me Showtime free for 6mo. and $20 off NFLST for 6mo.
