I don't have enough details to analyze your setup, but I ran it just fine on far less hardware. Either you had bad drivers, bad AV/anti-malware setup or did things to it that made it run badly.

Nope. Ran a RAID 5 array that was in good health. Sure a drive would go out every now and then but even when the array was good it was just as slow.
