Haven't tried it, but there shouldn't be a problem. You enter the GC number and code for the $20 GC the same way you do for a regular GC. I don't REI treats it any different.

I live in Massachusetts. Maybe they send it to people in specific regions or those that spent less than a certain amount. I spent under $500 this year at REI. I have a friend that lives in San Diego....

Sometimes they can find the order in their system if you don't have the receipt but I'm sure they would need some of your info to look it up.
