I've had similar results. I have the hd homerun and avermedia duet and the duet has solid reception and the homerun is basically unusable. Both tuners are fed from the same antenna feed.

Thanks for the article, was waiting on more info on XBMC PVR support. I wonder how much his disadvantages were linked to the cheap tuner card, and how much better it may be with a better card or a...

Just a quick data point for those that are in a "fringe" area reception-wise. Sorry if it's a little OT. I have both the HDHomeRun dual tuner and two Hauppauge HVR 950Q and the 950Q has...

Unfortunately, I don't have the experience to answer your question about the hardware. I have only built one HTPC and only used one Tuner card (the avermedia). I can speak about the joy of...

I have the exact same question. Anyone have any experience using this tuner with NextPVR? Lifehacker just released an article about using XBMC as a front-end. Link here:...

Windows 8 is supposed to have a few performance improvements under the hood, but I did upgrade my HTPC to Win8 and can't say that I notice any difference whatsoever. Sticking with Win7 is probably...

Yeah, that's exactly why I won't make the switch. Plus, if you didn't get in on the free key for WMC on the SD that expired on 2/3, they want you to pay for it. Oh, and I have nothing to gain from...

Windows 8 has WMC too. It's identical to the one in Win7 Ultimate. They did not add a single new feature or improvement. In fact, it's annoying because now you need a hack to make it start up...

If you only need one tuner, I got the WinTV-HVR-1250 from Ebay for ~$23 shipped. It comes from Hong Kong, so shipping takes a couple weeks, but it has been working great for me with mythtv under...

In-4-1 I've had USB AverMedia tuner for 4 years, never had any trouble, but the MC software is not as easy to work with versus WMC. Anyone know what HDHomeRun can do that WMC cannot? How about...

I've been using the Avermedia Duet with WMC and it hasn't given me any problems. The downside is that there really aren't any other media centers that can use this card. If you are happy using WMC...

Well, it will probably "play nice," but you may well still run into the problems others mentioned above. Do you REALLY want your parents calling you when it "disappears" one day? Also, you may want...

As others mentioned the HDHomerun is said to be a good choice. Personally, I use a Hauppauge HVR 950Q and an Avermedia Volar Max Hybrid, both usb tuners connected to a laptop running ubuntu...

I have been using Hauppauge HVR-1600 tuner cards for a few years. I got a bunch of them ($20 each) from that ebay guy, he was selling loads of them as surplus, although I think they were never used....
