The notebook version is the scorpio black. I'm thinking the velociraptor is faster. SSD much faster...probably fastest for 7200 rpm drive though.

Run the drive through the manufacturer's utility. It will have a "Long Test" (or similar wording) that is thorough enough. You don't need to partition first.

how does one check new HDDs for errors and to run it through an intensive test to make sure it doesn't die on you in a week…windows 7 is the OS on my SSD that I would be using to check these…I assume...
